Grading of Ductal Carcinoma in-situ (DCIS)

Grade

Histologic Features (DCIS)

Low

small monotonous nuclei; usually no/focal comedo-type necrosis; resembles lobular intraepithelial neoplasia; usually cribriform, micropapillary, papillary, solid. 0-10% progress to invasive disease.

Intermediate

between high grade and low grade

High

large, pleomorphic angular nuclei, frequent mitoses and prominent nucleoli; comedo-type necrosis nearly always present and often extensive. 40% progress to invasive disease.
