Measure the specimen (two surface dimensions and one thickness dimension).
Describe the specimen (color, wrinkled vs. smooth) and any lesions (measurements, depth of invasion, distance to margin, color, ulcer, nodule).
Ink the margins only if there is a lesion or a history of dysplasia/carcinoma (check the requisition form).
It is not necessary to serially section through the entire specimen if it is a routine circumcision procedure and if there are no macroscopic abnormalities. Make a few incisions to examine the cut surface and to take your sections.
